Dental Fillings

Don’t Neglect Untreated Cavities

Cavities can’t go untreated. They will only get worse and that leads to larger cavities, a possible infection, a likely root canal or tooth extraction. The simplest way to deal with a cavity is to get a dental filling. At 11 Dental, we do dental fillings in under an hour in most cases and have filling materials to choose from that meet your needs.

We care about your teeth. Trust us to take care of them with dental fillings.

The Changing Look of Dental Fillings

Dental fillings aren’t what they once were. You once could spot who had fillings from the silver amalgam that showed when they laughed. Those days are gone. People today no longer get silver amalgam fillings, although they are still available. The primary reason for the reduction of this technique is safety. Silver amalgam fillings contained small traces of mercury, which has proven to be unhealthy. At the same time, people prefer the look of fillings that blend into their natural teeth where no one can spot them.

At 11 Dental, we offer different materials for fillings. Those include porcelain, composite resin, and gold. The composite resin is popular because of its natural look and affordability. Gold is sometimes recommended for back teeth because of its durability. Porcelain closely resembles natural teeth, making it another good choice. We can help you decide which type of filling is best for you. Any one you choose will stop the cavity from reforming in your tooth and protect your tooth from bacteria.

Dental Fillings Process

01

Getting a dental filling typically isn’t done the same day as your exam. That is a separate appointment and usually takes about an hour. However, it depends on the extent of the cavity

02

At the filling appointment, staff will numb the area where filling work will be done. A local anestethic is administered by needle. Staff first numb the gum where the injection goes to prevent pain. Your gum will be numb in minutes

03

The dentist will clean out the cavity and disinfect it to remove all bacteria and debris. They may use both hand tools and power dental equipment to do this so there may be some noise. You should only feel pressure from the work.

04

The dentist will then fill the cavity with the material recommended or chosen by you. They shape it to fit with the shape of your tooth so no one will know it’s a filling.

05

The material hardens in a few minutes. The dentist then continues to work with it for a seamless blend into your tooth.

06

The dentist will give you aftercare instructions for you to follow for a few days until your filling completely sets. They may also give you an antibiotic to prevent infection.

Don’t wait

Cavities only worsen

Fillings Are Affordable

Dental fillings are one of the most affordable investments you can make in oral health care. They last up to 10 years, sometimes longer. They prevent your tooth from being re-infection and allow for complete chewing function. Most insurance pays for filings. The cost of more invasive treatments later will be much higher.
Dental fillings today are more advanced and less noticeable than in decades past. They look like your natural teeth so no one will ever know. Today’s fillings are durable and help your teeth retain functionality. Procedures are more advanced too so you don’t feel pain.
