Endodontist

The Difference Between an Endodontist and a Dentist

An endodontist is a dental specialist who focuses on tooth root issues. They perform root canals and similar procedures to remove infections and deal with other problems stemming from areas underneath the tooth called the tooth pulp. Endodontists are dental school graduates who go on to take specialized training for this specific area of dentistry.

General dentists also receive training for root canals in dental school and can perform them. However, they may refer all root canal cases, or complex ones, to an endodontist. At 11 Dental, we have both dentists and endodontists to meet all your needss.

You Need an Endodontist

Those seeking a root canal can seek specialized care from an endodontist. They can perform this procedure with all the advanced tools to relieve pain and help you heal faster.

Convenient

Endodontists

One of the best things about seeing an endodontist is that you get almost immediate relief from pain after the procedure. They also save your tooth so you won’t need an extraction.

Your Endodontist Visit

Even though you had an exam and X-rays at your dentist’s office, an endodontist will perform another one to look at your tooth. They will do X-rays and will test sensitivity to determine pulp damage or infection.
The tooth is sealed and the endodontist may put a temporary filling and crown on it. You will need to come back or go to your general dentist for a permanent crown or filling.
The area will be numbed and the endodontist uses a series of tools to remove the infected pulp. They clean and disinfect root canals and fill them with a sealant. They may take more X-rays during the process to determine if the treatment is satisfactory.
